Project a TL text onto the IWB. Students take it in turns to try and read it out loud, changing if a mistake is made – this is a good opportunity to correct any pronunciation errors. Use an IWB pen to scribble over some of the text… Repeat, repeat etc.! Eventually students will be speaking from memory.
They could then be asked to write the text and would be writing from memory. This could be adapted to work in pairs to see who is the first to get all the way through correctly with the text completely obscured and a third person with the correct text as a checker if necessary.
Without an IWB you could write the text onto a whiteboard and rub it off gradually as students progress. Or, on an OHP you could scatter items over the text gradually to hide it.
